competition entry for a pedestrian and bicycle bridge in Vienna, 2004
The design and structural concept of this bridge is based on the rhythm and speed of the different modes
of mobility which the bridge is there for. Different speeds of pedestrians and cyclists create different
viewing options. In dense interaction with the structural engineers we translated the directions and spatial
implications of the movement-view relationship into a rhythm of geometry and of the structural system.
The transitory space of the bridge becomes a space of perception, which stimulates the experience of
immersive movement through the city to modes of viewing, whether in fast speed or even stillness.
