A sport´s playfield with rough edges and curbs, and a soft landscape for sitting.
This is about lightening up a shadowy space and getting some green into its grey. In the ground-level
men´s walking yard, no lawn can grow due to the lack of sunlight falling in. Also, this yard is smaller than
the smallest Bambini soccer field, and it has rough edges.
With our approach and design, this yard still becomes a sport´s field – with some curtailments, but also
some new perspectives and possibilities. In a humourous manner, the present spatial conditions, which
are really in- or un-conditions, are integrated into the aesthetic concept.
Where no grass grows, a Bambini-size soccer field made of artificial lawn is really "folded" into the form
and topography of the field. When a wall blocks the soccer field from extending as it should, it just folds
itself up the wall. (Artificial lawns are often being used on sport´s fields outside of prisons, because
maintenance, durability and playability are easier and better than they are with natural lawns.)
By having rest areas and sport´s zones overlap, the small outside space is made into several spaces:
the sum of "switchable" usages of space ideally and conceptually turns one square-meter into several
square meters. Basketball across the yard, soccer (miniaturized) along the yard, Badminton in original
size, a landscape for sitting in the zone with the maximum of sunlight falling in, etc.
