Reading the Designed Environment
Milano, 2013

A close-up serves the purpose of looking closely at something/somebody trough the optics of an apparatus such as
a camera.
Filmic close-ups can emphasize the expression of an actor or a relationship between things in more detail: part of
the exitement this creates is to find something which could not be detected from afar.

The technique of close-up could also be a means of dealing with the design and refurbishment of urban neighbourhoods
after planners' "top-down" attitudes have been dismantled as a problematic simplification of urban complexities
into a scaled plan or model.
