Contemporary working conditions, such as short time jobs, global "expat" travelling, or mobility in profes-
sional careers in general, ask for new building typologies and programs, such as a boardinghouse: an
apartment-like hotel or an apartment building with hotel-like amenities.
The site of the invited competition was equally demanding: in the centre of Vienna's first district, the new
building replaces an old building, which was part of a historic facade-ensemble. The goal was to create a
contemporary richness of the facade, which relates to composition features of the ensemble.
